Budget Friendly Meal – Spaghetti Pie

It has been some time since I have shared a Budget Friendly Recipe with you all.  But I was so inspired to cook up this family favorite Spaghetti Pie with the great meal deal we have this week at Tops.

Spaghetti Pie

Serves 6
Prep time 25 minutes
Cook time 30 minutes
Total time 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef 90%
  • 1/2 Cup Chopped Onion (finely)
  • 1/4 Cup Green Pepper (chopped)
  • 12-24 Ounces Spaghetti Sauce
  • 6 Ounces Spaghetti (cooked and drained)
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter (melted)
  • 2 Egg Whites (lightly beaten)
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese (divided )
  • 1 Pound Lean Ground Beef 90%

  • 12-24 Ounces Spaghetti Sauce
  • 6 Ounces Spaghetti (cooked and drained)
  • 1 Tablespoon Butter (melted)
  • 2 Egg Whites (lightly beaten)
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 1/2 Cup Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese (divided )

Directions

Step 1
In a nonstick skillet, cook the beef, onion and green pepper over medium heat until meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in the Spaghetti Sauce to the desired consistency. You want it thick not so runny; set aside.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese and the ricotta cheese; set aside.
Step 3
In a large bowl, combine the spaghetti, butter, egg whites and Parmesan cheese. Press onto the bottom and up the sides of a 9-in. deep-dish pie plate coated with cooking spray. Top with the mozzarella & ricotta mixture and then beef mixture.
Step 4
Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Bake 5-10 minutes longer or until cheese is melted and filling is heated through. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting
